Last weekend I attended Bloggy Boot Camp Vegas, my first blogger conference. My friend (and fellow blogger) Heidi of HEN online joined me. We were both a little nervous. I hate making small talk and have a fear of zombie mommy bloggers. I also have a fear of being impaled which, after Bloggy Boot Camp, is more likely to happen to me than being attacked by zombie mommy bloggers.
What are zombie mommy bloggers? I don’t know. I made them up. They are a fictitious creation existing only in my head. Mommy bloggers dressed like zombies attacking me with their words…
Not all mommy bloggers are created equally: Having a fear of zombie mommy bloggers makes going to Bloggy Bootcamp a potentially scary place. What I pictured: I am surrounded by zombie mommy bloggers, trapped in conversations about creating the perfect cupcake, mom jeans or my ultimate fear – birthing and breast feeding. I am happy to say I heard nothing like that all weekend. Whew! Everyone I met was professional, uniquely beautiful and willing to share a bit of their story with me. It was a pleasure to meet all of you!
Because I love using the word kickass: Kickass design and content is important! Presenters confirmed my website needs a design makeover and I need to write more kickass content. If that was all I came away learning at Bloggy Bootcamp that would have been enough but I learned more. I learned the business of blogging and about sponsored posts. I met dog bloggers and have a call with my writing partner tomorrow to breathe new life into our Beyond the Wet Nose dog blog.
FUFT-ing is your Friend: FUFT stands for follow up and follow through. My friend and colleague Life Coach Erin has monthly Creative Connections educational networking workshops. She ends by telling us, “Now ladies, don’t forget to FUFT!” The first time I heard her say this I thought she was talking dirty. Now I get it. At Bloggy Bootcamp Vegas I followed everyone using #BBCVegas on Twitter. I commented and promised to follow-up. I am off to send a few emails!
Thank you Bloggy Boot Camp for teaching me that zombie mommy bloggers are only in my head!
I’m glad I went too! Thanks for mentioning it to me and inspiring me to start doing my own side business!
Aw shucks…. It was great spending time with you!
I’m so glad we met at Bloggy Boot Camp! I’d love to get together. Email me and let me know what your schedule’s like in the next couple of weeks.
Hi, Raejean!! Email me some dates/times next week when you’re available to meet. [email protected]. Thanks.
