Answering the question what is a power team may be different depending on who you ask. A networking referral power team is a group of complementary businesses who refer business to each other; the biggest benefit being the business is new and would not have happened without the partnership. Entrepreneur Magazine adds that power teams may have the same clients and don’t take business from each other.
At McAuley Freelance Writing we consider our power team to be the people with whom we can share business building ideas and refer business with confidentiality.
Here are characteristics of the MFW Power Team:
- Creative, fun business owners who apply “Vegas Rules” to brainstorming sessions. It’s an understanding that what we are sharing is confidential…and so is all feedback we receive.
- Refer business to each other. My power team is made of people to whom I would refer business and hope they would do the same. It’s not anything written. I just want to share and do business with good people.
- You might be a power partner and not even know it! There are people like Life Coach Erin who offer great advice, ideas and events that we LOVE, share and use to build into our business.
- Complementary businesses like website designers or marketing professionals who may have clients who need copy or blogs written. I often come across business owners in need of website and marketing design so it makes a nice partnership.
What’s important in a power team is that YOU are comfortable working together. It won’t work if you want something and you aren’t giving anything or vice versa. Do you have a power team? How do you work together? I would love to hear from you!
