One Really Important & Two Ironic Things You Need To Know

One really important thing to know about me is that my passion is writing about employment. I love researching and writing about trends in hiring, tips for job seekers, employee retention and employee engagement. I do it as a ghostwriter which is one of the reasons I am writing about it here on my blog – it’s the only place you will hear about it….at least for now.

The first irony is that I am a freelance writer because corporate America laid me off more than two years ago. My passion comes from having worked for amazing companies with amazing corporate cultures and with talented, creative coworkers.

I look back fondly on those days and write from the heart when I write about engaging and retaining employees. I know because I was a retained and engaged employee.

The second irony is that while I don’t have a resume I know exactly what you need to create a resume that will get you the job you desire. I know what to wear and say at a job interview. I know this because I know experts in the field and some of them are my clients. My resume is my website and LinkedIn profile, at least for now.

Please note: I am not a resume writer but I know some of the best and can introduce you to them. I love research and follow trends to be able to write on the subject. I will hire a resume writer when and if the time occurs when I need a resume.

  1. That irony is part of what makes you so good at what you do. Your experience in the corporate world gives you an insider’s view on corporate culture, hiring, and employee retention and engagement.

When I was a freelance researcher working with fundraisers, I think my experience working for a major organization with a large fundraising department really added value to what I had to offer. I had worked with experienced and successful fundraisers, and I understood how they thought and what they needed. That knowledge transferred well even when I worked with small shops.

    • It’s so true! We learn from every experience — good or bad — and take it with us to our next project.

    • I agree that it is the irony that makes what I do a business and not just a writer flailing around with words. As much as I wish I had been a writer 20 years ago I don’t think I could have sustained my efforts without the business experience.
