Life isn’t about work.
That’s the overwhelming life lesson I learned this week.
It’s been a crazy life the last few months. My focus has been on business and I am pleased to have landed my biggest deal this month.
Life isn’t about getting the biggest deal.
Life is about what getting the biggest deal means for your life outside of business.
It means working hard and playing harder.
I had forgotten about playing harder.
Over the last few months I have found myself.
I found I am a different person that at any other point in my life.
In my soul and in my life I am a writer. I live by the heart and intuition, even in business (gasp!).
There’s a certain element of understanding the numbers to make a business deal. Even when the numbers seem to be right, I do a gut-check. If it doesn’t feel right, I won’t do the deal.
That’s how I choose my friends too – with my heart and intuition.
Over this week and the last few months I have remembered how much I love having fun with the right people. Working alone means making a concerted effort to get out of the house. It means making friends who understand the madness of being a business owner…and who understand the importance of not working.
This week I was afforded the opportunity to see my dad who lives across the country. We went to Cactus League Spring Training baseball games.
Baseball games aren’t always about the game.
Don’t ask me who played because I don’t remember.
Don’t ask me the score because I don’t remember.
The game was about seeing and spending time with people that I love.
We laughed and did what all baseball fans do – we ate hot dogs and drank beer.
Life isn’t about the work. It’s about the work making the play that much more fun.
Here’s to you working hard and playing harder!

Anne – congrats on landing the big client and congrats on learning this lesson. I’ve found myself going through a similar transition this month also. It’s so wonderful when one’s perspective makes such a positive shift. It’s not necessarily a huge shift, but it does have a huge impact.
Great post = thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Bob!
Lovely thoughts. It’s so easy to get sucked into the computer and the to-do list and this and that, but I try to make myself get offline at a reasonable time every night, shut the thing down, turn the phone on silent, and just enjoy life.
It’s refreshing to be out in the world sometimes, isn’t it? I turned off the phone Saturday night and wrote. Some of it was brilliant and some of it was a dump of mind crap…it all felt good. I need to do that more often.
