A year ago I was blessed to be featured in the Arizona Republic series on reinventing yourself. A variety of people and businesses in Arizona have had to reinvent their personal or business brand. I was no exception. As a result of being featured I have met many inspiring people I may not have otherwise met including The Intuitive Women Leader Dr. Robyn McKay. Her title and name may indicate a formalness that doesn’t exist once you spend five minutes with her.
This week Robyn sent a message that truly struck a chord with me as I refine the vision for my business from if you need help with words I can help you to blogger for local business:
“Today is a perfect day to declare your own freedom. Start by asking these questions:
- What do you want to be at liberty to do?
- What project or idea is calling to you right now?
- What gifts are you ignoring?
- What’s one belief you need to change in your own brain that keeps you from declaring your freedom?
Your freedom starts with a decision in your own mind.”
What do you want to be at liberty to do? For me, liberty means the opportunity to choose the clients with whom I work based on a variety of factors including narrowing the industries to these ten that I love. For others it may mean being able to work in a field or a department of a business that truly suits their dreams, visions and goals.
What project idea is calling you right now? Having a complete and living business plan is the project calling me right now. If you know me you know I always have a bunch of projects calling me so the others include The Ultimate Blog Challenge and Kat Stardust. Now that I think about it, Kat’s blog can be by blog challenge project – two birds, one stone.
What gifts are you ignoring? My gifts of dancing and singing…OMG! I can’t even WRITE that with a straight face because I have the rhythm of a white girl and the “gift” of being tone deaf! I am blessed to be doing what I love and getting paid for it so I don’t think I am ignoring any gifts. It’s something to ponder.
What’s one belief you need to change that keeps you from declaring freedom? As women we often put up our own glass ceiling – and I am no exception – and as the builder we need to remember we can take it down as easily as we put it up. That means charging what you’re worth; it’s easier said than done especially when we still have a self-made glass ceiling. Taking down the glass ceiling and realizing our value will help us go far in business and in life.
What will you do to create your personal freedom? I can’t wait to hear from you!
Thanks, Robyn, for the inspiration!

Oooo, I enjoy productive introspection!! I love what you said. Blogger for local business and choosing your clients based on the industries you love–really cool!!
?What do you want to be at liberty to do? To work side by side with female small business owners so I can ‘get in their head’ and help them express their point of view through their writing. I’d like to have a handful of great clients I can work closely with, rather than a bunch of ‘little’ clients. That would work well for me with where I’m at in life right now.
?What project or idea is calling to you right now? Offering to help women write and/or edit their personal story, whether for them to publish, present, pass around or just to keep for themselves.
?What gifts are you ignoring? I really love event planning and entertaining, but it’s hard to incorporate it into what I’m doing. I’m pretty good at encouraging people, too, and I’m not doing enough of that right now.
?What’s one belief you need to change in your own brain that keeps you from declaring your freedom? Anne, I’m with ya on this one–I have to remember to charge what I’m worth. I’m in the process of narrowing my focus, finding my niche and gaining the confidence to say, “I’m worth every penny.” It’s an on-going process!!
Thanks for a thought-provoking post!
Thanks for sharing, Tabitha! I love that as writers and women in business we can share our ideas. All too often as women we get competitive in a bad, non-life-giving way. I am blessed to have you and others in my life from whom I learn. You rock!
